Why Some People Have No Fingerprints?

Everyone should have a fingerprint that could be a symbol of identity. But some people known to have no fingerprints. What causes it?

Scientists believe that people who are known to have no fingerprints caused by a rare genetic defect. Fingerprints are a manifestation of the language of the uterus formed from 6-month-old fetus. At the age of the fetus already has its own characteristics on his fingertips.

Researchers reveal almost no one knows exactly how the genes function in the skin. But usually the finger is covered by mountains called dermatoglyphs are fully formed before the baby is born.
Someone who was diagnosed with the condition have only or no fingerprints at all known by name adermatoglyphia. This condition is more popularly known as 'Immigration delay disease',because later the person will have problems when I had to miss the airport.
A study published in the American Journal of Human Genetics analyze a family in Switzerland that most of them do not have fingerprints. But through the analysis of DNA from family researchers identified the influence of genes SMARCAD1.
In another study conducted by researchers from Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center in Israel analyzed the genetic code of the 16 members of the family in which seven of them have a fingerprint while 9 others have no fingerprints.
Researchers found the short version of the gene SMARCAD1 who have mutations in the skin of family members who do not have fingerprints.
"Our findings suggest that the involvement of SMARCAD1 genes in regulating the formation of fingerprints,"said lead researcher Professor Eli Sprecher,as quoted by BBC News, Friday (8/5/2011).
Prof.Sprecher said today little is known about the function of SMARCAD1, but the possibility of mutations that occur in these genes affect the formation of a person's fingerprint.
Generally the pattern found from the fingerprint is divided into two characteristics of the final ridge and bifurcation. This is because the final order of the ridge and bifurcation different character in each fingerprint. This characteristic also can be linked to the genetic map of the tendency of certain diseases.
