"Israel will not respond,"said Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak earlier this week, when asked whether his country was involved in the murder of Iranian nuclear scientists.
Barak's words do not sound like denial,and a smile on his face said Israel was not too bothered by the suspicion that it was responsible for a series of murders against the physicist involved in Iran's nuclear program.
There is little doubt in the dark world of intelligence,that Israel was behind the murder of Darioush Rezaei.
"It was the first serious action taken by the new Mossad chief Tamir Pardo,"said an Israeli intelligence source told Der Spiegel on Monday (8 / 8).
On July 23,Rezaei became the latest victim in a series of mysterious attacks during the last 20 months against Iran's elite physicists.
Rezaei, 35,died after being shot in the throat in front of his daughter in eastern Tehran. Iranian press reported the two perpetrators fled on a motorcycle.
Rezaei is the three Iranian nuclear physicist who must pay the Persian nation's nuclear project with his life since early 2010.
In January 2010,a nuclear physicist Ali Mohammadi Masoud was killed when a bomb attached to a motorcycle beside her car,was detonated remotely.
On 29 November 2010, two actors perform two attacks, which involved explosives attached to a motorcycle,car toward their victims. Majid Shahriari, nuclear physics professor specialized in the field of neutron transport,was killed when his car exploded.His wife was seriously injured in the attack.
Fereidoun Abbasi were targeted in simultaneous attacks. Abbasi, an expert in nuclear isotope separation, saw a suspicious motorcycle. He and his wife jumped out of the car. They were both injured in the blast. After recovering Abbasi,Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad appointed him as one of Iran's vice president and head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization.
Iran's suspected "crime triangle,"consisting of U.S.,Israel,and their accomplice, was behind the attack,according to sources in Tehran.
Washington has denied responsibility.
"We are not involved,"said a spokesman for the U.S.State Department when responding to a death Rezaei.
But strangely,Israel chose a policy of silence full of mystery.
According to Israeli intelligence sources,the killing was part of a campaign of sabotage,or at least to slow the development of Iran's nuclear program.
The campaign is also suspected to involve other tactics. Cyber attacks using Stuxnet computer virus that paralyzed most of Iran's nuclear program in the summer of 2010. It is also said to be part of Israel's secret campaign against Iran.
Experts Mossad until now was able to convince the decision makers in Tel Aviv,that the Iranian nuclear project could be slowed by the nuclear attacks on major facilities.
However,it is not clear until when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will continue to follow this advice. Politicians in Tel Aviv know very well that the Mossad also had its own interests when he argues that the intelligence agencies should play a major role in the fight against Iran.
"For leading the war against Iran,the Mossad would have a big budget,"said intelligence sources were.
Will there be an open attack against Iranian nuclear facilities in the future,it will all depend on who will win an internal power struggle,the military or the intelligence,the source said.
