Malaysian Muslims Against Apostasy

About 5,000 Muslim Malaysia menyemut in a stadium near Kuala Lumpur,Saturday (22/10/2011),to protest the action of proselytizing by other religions are increasingly widespread in the country.

The protesters demanded that the new regulations are made that will give punishment to anyone who tried to remove Muslims from their religion.

Mass gathering organized by the 25 non-governmental groups, initially expected to invite one million participants.

The protests went peacefully. A number of Muslim leaders took turns speaking at the podium.

"Muslims must be more united and I'm here to support the call that we are protected from proselytizing efforts, but I am not against other religions," said a rally participant Zamzuri Abdul Rahman, told reporters.

Classified as sensitive religious issues in the multicultural country.

Some people think, protests came after discovery of a dinner at the church which invites Muslims. Selangor religious authorities raided the ceremony at the church.

The organizers expressed concern with the trend among Muslim apostate.

"We live side by side with other faiths and religions, and we want to convey the message that we do not want to be disturbed. We want people to understand that there is agreement in the constitution that you can not spread the teachings of a religion other than Islam to Muslims," said Muhammad Azmi Abdul Hamim , leader of the organizers told reporters.

Sixty percent of Malaysia's 28 million population is Muslim. Adherents of Buddhism reached 19 percent, 9 percent Christian and 6 percent Hindu. The rest are ethnic Chinese adherents of other beliefs .*
